Meal Pattern Minute: Identifying Whole Grain-Rich Method 2

April 14, 2023

There are six different options to determine if a grain product meets the whole grain-rich criteria in the Child and Adult Care Food Program. One of those methods is to use the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program Women, Infant and Children (WIC) shopping list to determine whole grain-rich products.

Tune in and listen to our nutrition education specialist, Isabel Ramos-Lebron, MS, RD, LDN, where she will explain in more detail how to use the WIC list to identify whole grain-rich products.

For more information on whole grain-rich, refer to USDA Memo Code: CACFP 09-2018, Grain Requirements in the Child and Adult Care Food Program: Questions and Answers.

  • The product is found on any State agency’s Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC)-approved whole grain food list.
  •  Any grain product found on a State agency’s WIC-approved whole grain food list meets CACFP whole grain-rich criteria. Providers can obtain a copy of a State agency’s WIC-approved whole grain food list by contacting the WIC State agency. For a list of WIC State agency contacts, please see www.fns.usda.gov/wic/wic-contacts.
