Read and Share the Stories of Indigenous People in North America

Reading and sharing the stories of Indigenous people with the children in your care will provide them with meaningful knowledge. National Indian Child Care Association (NICCA) offers you a list of books for and/or by Indigenous people in North America. The National Indian Child Care Association is a representative American Indian and Alaska Native organization serving the 268 Tribal CCDF grantees that represent Tribal communities across the nation. The mission of the National Indian Child Care Association is to promote high quality culturally relevant child care and development and to unify tribes and tribal organizations by providing leadership, support and advocacy on behalf of American Indians, Alaska Natives, and Native Hawaiians.

To that end, NICCA offers an ever-growing list of books for and/or by Indigenous people. These books can help you share the story of Indigenous people in North America. The extensive, inclusive list is divided into age ranges: babies and toddlers, preschool to elementary and middle school. Several books are even offered in Cree or Navajo in addition to English.
