Meal Pattern Minute: At-Risk Afterschool
January 3, 2025
In the Child and Adult Care Food Program there are various site types that serve CACFP such as family child care homes, child care centers, adult day care centers, emergency shelters and afterschool centers. The number of meal types (i.e. breakfast, lunch/supper, snack) that can be served and claim for reimbursement vary based on the type of site you work at. So, if you are a CACFP operator who serves in an At-Risk Afterschool Program, how many meal types can be served and claimed for reimbursement?Â
Tune in to this Meal Pattern Minute as Isabel Ramos-Lebron, MS, RDN, LD, explains the USDA federal regulations on claiming meals when operating the CACAFP At-Risk Afterschool Program.Â
If you serve afterschool meals or snacks, check out the National CACFP Association’s page on Afterschool Meals. Here we provide access to resources from USDA, No Kid Hungry, and NCA materials to help you operator CACFP in the afterschool setting. Â
USDA’s CACFP At-Risk Afterschool Meals Guide provides an overview of key components of serving meals and snacks in an afterschool setting.Â
If you are currently operating either the CACFP At-Risk Afterschool Program or the Summer Food Service Program (SUN Meals), we've partnered with No Kid Hungry to develop a Program Comparison of CACFP At-Risk Afterschool and SFSP chart to help providers transition from CACFP to SUN meals and vice versa. Here you will see the differences and similarities of the programs.Â
