Celebrate National Dairy Month
Dairy Council of California
June 18, 2024
Did you know that June is National Dairy Month? National Dairy Month was established in 1937 as "National Milk Month." Now we appreciate the wide variety of milk and dairy foods that contribute to healthy, sustainable and delicious eating patterns. Our partners at the Dairy Council of California have some ideas and resources to help you celebrate.Â
How to CelebrateÂ
Taste New Dairy FoodsÂ
Experiment with unfamiliar or cultural dairy-based foods such as kefir, a fermented milk drink; mango lassi, a traditional Indian drink or Mexican cheeses such as Queso Oaxaca and cotija.Â
Explore Dairy’s Role in Sustainable NutritionÂ
Learn how milk goes from the farm to you and the role cows play in sustainable nutrition by watching an episode of their family-friendly broadcast series: Let’s Eat Healthy Together: Farm-to-You.Â
Share Milk and Dairy Education Â
Dairy foods like milk, cheese and yogurt are essential to healthy eating patterns. Share the benefits of milk and dairy foods and meal ideas with the Milk + Dairy Foods tipsheet.Â
ResourcesÂ
Milk + Dairy Tip SheetÂ
Milk and dairy foods provide unique nutritional benefits and are an important part of a healthy eating pattern. The Milk + Dairy two-sided tip sheet for families includes meal and snack ideas, cost per serving information, recommended servings sizes and dairy’s health benefits.  Â
Let’s Eat Healthy Together: Explore DairyÂ
Let's Eat Healthy Together: Explore Dairy builds value for milk and dairy foods in a healthy, sustainable eating pattern through five 20-30 minute lessons of videos, taste tests, extension activities and more. This educational unit invites students to use all their senses on a journey of food discovery through nutrition, agriculture and cultural traditions.Â
