Infant Formula Recall Announced

On February 17, 2022, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration announced an advisory to alert consumers to avoid purchasing or using certain powdered infant formulas. In response, Abbott announced a voluntary recall of powder formula manufactured in Sturgis, Michigan, which includes Similac, Alimentum and EleCare. Abbott cited four consumer complaints related to Cronobacter sakazakii and Salmonella Newport in infants. The recall does not include any metabolic deficiency nutrition formulas.
How Do I Know If I Have a Recalled Product?
The products under recall have a multi-digit number on the bottom of the container, of which:
- the first two digits of the code are 22 through 37; and
- the code on the container contains K8, SH or Z2; and
- the expiration date is 4-1-2022 or later.
